Havasu 95 Speedway To Bring Smiles To 256 Local Kids This Christmas

By Dave Grayson

On Christmas morning 256 children, residing in Lake Havasu City-Arizona, will walk into their living rooms and discover the presence of a brand new bicycle. This holiday surprise was arranged by the management and staff from the Havasu 95 Speedway who, once again, held their annual bike drive during their winter racing season.

The speedway's annual bike fund raiser actually dates back several years when speedway Promoter Bill Rozhon decided he wanted to do something special for children of needy families, in a community that he dearly loves, to insure that they had the merry Christmas that every child deserves.

Coordinating his idea with the Lake Havasu City Marine Corp Detachment #757's Toys For Tots program, the Havasu 95 Speedway's bicycle campaign became an instant success. Since it's original inception, the speedway's annual Christmas campaign has raised over $50,000 that has led to the purchase and distribution of over 1,000 bikes.

As in the case of previous years, the 2016 bicycle campaign got off to a very fast start with the speedway's legion of loyal fans buying fifty-fifty tickets which gave the campaign a strong foundation. They were backed by contributions from local businesses, individual contributions from fans and there were reports that said some of the drivers donated their race winnings. With all of that love and support, the 2016 campaign collected a total of $8,276.60 which covered the cost of the 256 bicycles.

In a prepared statement, Speedway Operations Manager Shelly Keirns said "racers and race fans, this year's annual Toys For Tots bicycle drive has come to an end and we couldn't be more thankful to all of you and your extreme generosity to this cause. Our Promoter, Bill Rozhon, firmly believes every child should wake up to a bike on Christmas morning, and that has been our driving force all of these years. The amount of money raised this year was $8,278.60 which we used to purchase 256 bicycles for children of all sizes here in Lake Havasu City."

The Havasu 95 Speedway will be taking a well deserved break for the holidays and will return to racing action, to start the second half of their winter racing series, on January 7th. In typical fashion, they will be starting the 2017 portion of their schedule on a strong note by featuring the Late Model division who will be treating the fans to twin, 50 lap, main events. Adding to the racing excitement will be the Office Cocktail Lounge Bandoleros, the Sam Nichols Electric Factory Stocks and a waterless boat race, a special event that this speedway excels at. Because of chilly night temperatures, this event will be a special day race. The spectator gates will open at 12pm with the green flag falling on all of this racing fun at 2pm.

For more information regarding the winter racing schedule dial up their website, at www.havasu95speedway.com, or visit their "Facebook" page.

Team Silco Closes Out 2016 Season With 15 Victories

LEMOORE, CALIFORNIA (December 19, 2016) – 11 year-old Ben Silliker's 12 win season in three different types of race cars highlighted a busy 2016 for Team Silco Racing. The Alberta, Canada team, now located in Lemoore, CA, competed in more than 110 main events on both dirt and asphalt as Silliker and his eight year-old brother Alex made their mark.

A trio of historic accomplishments - youngest A Main starter in Kyle Larson Showcase history, youngest Pavement Late Model winner in California history, and youngest Non-Wing Micro feature winner in the nation - gave Team Silco one of its best career seasons.

The historic season got started with the brothers competing in the Chowchilla Barn Burner races, leading to Ben's first win of the year on February 7th in the Non-Wing 500 Outlaw Kart. On March 12, Ben became the youngest participant in the pavement Jr. Late Model Series in Madera California, televised on MAVTV. He stormed to a second place finish in the debut on March 12th. He followed that effort up with a fourth place finish in an Outlaw Kart race at Delta Speedway against a 30 car field.

His second win came just a week later in the Jr. Late Models making him the youngest winner in series history. He did not have to wait long for win number three, scoring that in a Restricted Micro Sprint at Dixon Speedway in April. He led much of the Jr. Late Model race at the end of April as well before a late race incident cost him the victory.

Ben Silliker won again on May 21 at Lemoore Raceway in a Restricted Micro. In June, he moved up to the full 600cc Non Wing Micros and finished fifth at Dixon. He podiumed again with the Jr. Late Model and won a Restricted main to end the month of June at Delta Speedway for his fifth different track to win at already at mid-season.

Win six came in a Restricted at Dixon Speedway in July before Team Silco began a strong late season surge. August was the start of the surge when Alex Silliker got his first two wins of the year while Ben had a win and a third in his Jr. Late Model.

September saw Team Silco enter the Kyle Larson Outlaw Kart Showcase at Cycleland Speedway in Oroville, CA. The largest and most prestigious Outlaw Kart event saw Silliker enter the full open 500cc division against over 130 entries from around the world. Silliker not only made the feature to be the youngest starter ever but he also qualified for the dash race as well. Ben ran in the top five before having a right rear go flat finishing with a 12th place in perhaps his biggest accomplishment of the season.

Riding a wave of momentum, Silliker earned his second Jr. Late Model win in a very hard fought victory at the end of September on MAVTV. He proudly carried the Bryan Clauson Logo on the hood, "Parking It" for BC.

Alex Silliker scored a pair of second place finishes at Dixon Speedway in October in the Jr. Sprints along with a second place in Box Stock at Chowchilla Barn Burner. Ben won his first Winged 500cc Open Outlaw Kart win against adult racers by taking the Barn Burner win on October 15th. He finished second on October 30th then won again at Hills Ferry Raceway in Newman, CA on November 5th for win number 10. Alex also won at Hills Ferry making it his 3rd win of the season.

Ben added one more major accomplishment by winning the Non Wing Micro feature during Turkey Night at Plaza Park in Visalia, CA on November 19th as the youngest Non Wing feature winner in the nation. Win 12 came in the Barn Burner at the end of November to give him the points lead in that series.

All told Ben Silliker made 74 starts with 12 victories and 42 top-five finishes. His brother Alex had 37 starts with three wins and 16 top-fives.

Team Silco will take a short break before returning to Outlaw Kart action on January 7th at Delta Speedway in Stockton, CA. The "Delta Kart Nationals" will be televised on Fast Four Media as well with coverage available at www.FastFourMedia.com. Ben Silliker's 2016 season of Jr. Late Model races can be viewed on demand on the LucasOilTV App or on MAVTV. Check your local listings.

More information on Team Silco Racing can be found at www.TeamSilco.com or on Facebook and Twitter.

Team Silco Racing is presented by Hamblin Motorsports, Micro Blue Bearings, Evolution Racing Products, Blakesley Sports Media, CSI Shocks, Vahlco Wheels, and Motion Media Wraps.

All eight race nights will be televised after a 2016 television package that included 16 one hour episodes of "Madera Racing".

The two Late Model divisions will co-headline the March 11th Madera Speedway season opener followed by events on April 29th, the May 27th Tribute to Armed Forces, June 17th, July 29th, August 26th, September 23rd, and the 4th Annual Short Track Shootout on October 6th and 7th. For the Jr. Late Models, 2017 will mark the second season for the world's first full size stock car series for drivers ages 10-16. The Jr. Late Models share the exact rule book of their Open LM counterparts except for a restrictor. The drivers will face a new challenge with races increased to 75 laps with a 50 lap opening segment followed by a break for interviews and car adjustments before a 25 lap final segment.

"The concept for the Jr. Late Model Series is something I've thought about since 2009, as I believe a restricted late model is a great place for a youngster to hone their skills in a car they can move up with throughout their teenage years," promoter Kenny Shepherd said. "We are proud that we have built a series where talent can shine in the LoanMart Late Model Series, and we intend to do the same for the 10-16 year old crowd with the Jr. Late Model Series on MAVTV."

Diverse Paths Lead Six Drivers To Top Honor

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Dec. 10, 2016) – It was the fourth time Doug Coby took the stage to accept a NASCAR championship ring. As the elder statesman on the stage, the Milford, Connecticut, driver took a moment to reflect.

“It seems like just yesterday I was standing right here giving a speech for my first championship and now here I am for number four,” said 37-year-old from Milford, Connecticut. “But a lot has changed in the five years since my first championship, and in fact it has been a great five years for all of the series champions.”

Coby was one of six drivers on stage Saturday night at the Charlotte Convention Center at the NASCAR Hall of Fame who received their NASCAR championship rings and trophies, culminating a memorable and exciting 2016 season.

Todd Gilliland (NASCAR K&N Pro Series West) and Cayden Lapcevich (NASCAR Pinty’s Series) are the two youngest champions in the history of NASCAR’s touring or national series. Burt Myers (NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour) and Anthony Kumpen (NASCAR Whelen Euro Series) each collected their second NASCAR touring titles. And Justin Haley (NASCAR K&N Pro Series East) will look to follow in former teammate William Byron’s path of going from touring champion to being a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship contender.

Together, they represented six different paths – from around the world – taken to reach the North Carolina stage and accept one of the sport’s greatest honors. Family was a common theme throughout the nights.

“Winning a championship is a hard and long battle and you need a family that supports you,” said Kumpen, who also won the Whelen Euro title in 2014. The 38-years-old from Hasselt, Belgium, won a series-high five races, and he clinched his championship in front of his home crowd at Circuit Zolder and in front of his racing idol, Jeff Gordon.

A 16-years-old from Grimsby, Ontario, Lapcevich won the first three races of his career and was the only driver to finish in the top 10 in ever NASCAR Pinty’s Series race this season.

“Originally we weren’t supposed to run a whole year,” said Lapcevich. “Just me and my dad and a couple crew members. Our thinking was, ‘Let’s try and play this out.’ There’s so much great talent in Canada. When you’re up against the best, it really teaches you to dig deep and bring your best. After that, every weekend I wanted to race for the championship. So thankful I can live out my dream racing every week.”

Gilliland, the 16-years-old from Sherrills Ford, North Carolina, joined his grandfather Butch as a NASCAR K&N Pro Series West champion. His six victories matched the mark as the most in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West since Jimmy Insolo won nine in 1978.

And Burt Myers continued his family’s long history of success at North Carolina’s historic Bowman Gray Stadium with an eighth NASCAR Whelen All-American Series championship. The 40-year-old from Walnut Cove, North Carolina, led the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour points the entire season en route to his second championship.

Coby became the first driver in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour’s modern era to win three straight titles, and he became just the fifth driver in NASCAR’s oldest division to win four or more titles. On the other end of the spectrum, Haley, a 17-years-old from Winamac, Indiana, broke through with his first championship season. He won twice to became the fourth consecutive driver for HScott Motorsports with Justin Marks to win the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East title. He’s also became the eighth straight teenager to win the K&N Pro Series East crown.

“Tonight is a celebration of remarkable achievements, and magical moments that occurred during the 2016 season but just as importantly, it’s also about the future of our sport,” said George Silbermann, NASCAR vice president of regional and touring series. “Daniel Suarez crossed this stage a few short years ago. Today, he’s the NASCAR XFINITY Series champion. He’s a hero in his home country and a great ambassador of the sport. But Dani is not an anomaly. These series routinely feature men and women, from many diverse backgrounds and ethnicities, who are not just competing but competing for wins.”

The championship car owners and crew chiefs were also recognized Saturday night.

There were plenty of other trophies handed out, too.

In addition to the championship awards, each series rookie of the year was honored. The Sunoco Rookie of the Year Award winners were Gilliland in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West and Hunter Baize in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East, Matt Swanson in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and Kyle Bonsignore in the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour. Lapcevich earned the Josten's Rookie of the Year in the NASCAR Pinty's Series, and Alon Day was awarded the Junior "Jerome Sarran" Trophy by the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series as the series' top young driver.

The Most Popular Driver Awards for each series were also presented during the ceremony. The seven drivers honored with the award, which was voted on by the fans through NASCAR.com, were Austin Theriault (NASCAR K&N Pro Series East), Salvatore Iovino (NASCAR K&N Pro Series West), Melissa Fifield (NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour), Trey Hutchens (NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour), Jason Hathaway (NASCAR Pinty’s Series), and Day.

The top-10 drivers and car owners from each of NASCAR's touring series also were recognized during the gala.

The awards ceremony was streamed live online at NASCARHomeTracks.com – the official online home of NASCAR’s touring series – in English, French and Spanish.

NWSLMS Releases 2017 Rulebook

Wenatchee, WA (December 10, 2016)–Technical officials with the Northwest Super Late Model Series have released the rulebook covering the 2017 season. Some adjustments were made to the points system and how drivers were awarded as such for participating in a “Happy Minutes” session, but otherwise no major changes were made in the competition aspect of the rulebook.

“The series had a good baseline of information to use while reviewing the rules used in the 2016 season. A goal from the start was to be sure the competition was solid, offered many options to the race teams so they could compete with the series week to week all while trying to keep costs down,” said Series Director, Jarrod Goodwin. “Evaluating data we collected during the 2016 season, we see that the rulebook used should continue with no major technical changes for 2017. We’ll take a look at the rulebook again at the completion of the 2017 season and evaluate if changes need to be made at that point.”

Questions regarding the 2017 rulebook can be directed to Goodwin or Technical Director, Dan Garber. To obtain a copy of the NWSLMS 2017 rulebook email the series at northwestsuperlatemodels@gmail.com

Up next for the NWSLMS will be next week’s release of the 2017 schedule followed by the Championship Banquet to be held January 14 at the Wenatchee Convention Center. For ticket information email George Wade at goewade95@hotmail.com or call (509) 663-8551.

NASCAR Announces 2017 Schedule For NASCAR K&N Pro Series

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Dec. 8, 2016) – NASCAR fans have been thrilled in recent years by the achievements of the sport’s rising stars – from Joey Logano’s DAYTONA 500 win in 2015 to Austin Dillon, Chase Elliott and Kyle Larson joining him in the 2016 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. Daniel Suarez won the NASCAR XFINITY Series championship this year and William Byron led the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in wins.

They all have one thing in common. They cut their teeth in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series before breaking into NASCAR’s national series.

With the announcement by NASCAR of the 2017 schedules for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East and West, fans across the United States will get to see up close the next wave of young drivers looking to make their impact.

The calendars for NASCAR’s top developmental series feature several can’t miss events to highlight those next superstars. The schedules cover 27 races, anchored by the annual combination race with the East and West at Iowa Speedway in July.

“The NASCAR K&N Pro Series have been an exceptional proving ground for our sport’s up-and-coming drivers,” said George Silbermann, NASCAR vice president of touring & weekly series. “The 2017 schedules for the East and West feature an assortment of tracks that will test the drivers and provide a platform to showcase their talents.”

The season will open with the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race at New Smyrna Speedway on Sunday, Feb. 19 as part of the Florida track’s 51st Annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing. The event will be part of a day that starts with Coors Light Pole Award Qualifying for the DAYTONA 500 at nearby Daytona International Speedway.

The NASCAR K&N Pro Series West begins its season with a unique four-race swing that parallels the NASCAR premiere series swing out West. The opening race will be at Tucson Speedway on Saturday, March 18, as the premiere and XFINITY Series visit Phoenix International Raceway. The West will then run at Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield, Calif., on Thursday, March 23, before racing in twin 100-lap features at Irwindale Speedway on Saturday, March 25. The premiere and XFINITY Series will be competing at nearby Auto Club Speedway that weekend.

Like their California counterpart, Virginia’s South Boston Speedway has a reputation in racing as a top-flight facility. Similarly, South Boston – which has undergone a multi-million dollar improvement process, including a track repave this offseason – will host twin 100-lap championship events for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East on Saturday May 6.

“The 2017 schedules are a perfect blend of short tracks, road courses and national series companion events, that really bring out the best in the competitors in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series,” said Jesse Spungin, chief marketing officer of K&N Engineering, Inc. “We are excited to be involved in the series and are looking forward to what the new year brings and seeing NASCAR’s next generation of drivers battling it out across the country.”

The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East will also make its first trips to Memphis International Raceway (June 3) and Berlin Raceway in Michigan (July 1); and will be featured in a throwback weekend at Connecticut’s Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park on Saturday, July 8. Thompson has held 27 K&N Pro East events, dating back to the series’ second year (1988) when it was the NASCAR Busch North Series.

The NASCAR K&N Pro Series West will feature its 54th trip to Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Wash., on Saturday, Aug. 12 and a return to Washington’s Spokane Country Raceway on May 13. The series will crown its champion with a second trip to Kern on Saturday, Nov. 4.

Other highlights of the 2017 schedule include:
· The K&N Pro Series will be part of five companion weekends with the NASCAR national series, including road-course events for the East at New York’s Watkins Glen International (Aug. 4) and for the West at Sonoma Raceway in California (June 24). In addition to the combination race at Iowa, the K&N Pro East will also race at Bristol Motor Speedway (April 22), New Hampshire Motor Speedway (July 15) and complete the season at Dover International Speedway (Sept. 29).
· Leading up to the finale at the high-speed half-mile at Kern, K&N Pro Series West championship contenders will have to navigate a string of bullrings in the second half of the season, beginning with Evergreen before traveling to Douglas County Speedway in Roseburg, Ore. (Aug. 26), Idaho’s Meridian Speedway (Sept. 30) and All American Speedway in Roseville, Calif. (Oct. 14).
· The K&N Pro East will make its traditional spring stop at South Carolina’s Greenville Pickens Speedway. One of the oldest tracks in NASCAR, Greenville has proven to be a title test in recent years. The eventual series champion has won at Greenville in each of the last four seasons.
· Orange Show Speedway in San Bernardino, Calif. (May 20), Colorado National Speedway (June 10) provide an early season test for the K&N Pro West, while the K&N Pro East will host its penultimate race of the season on the road course at New Jersey Motorsports Park (Sept. 16).

The NASCAR K&N Pro Series television broadcast schedule on NBCSN will be announced at a later date.

Rocha Dominates Battle, but Thorn Wins the War

The SPEARS (SRL) Southwest Tour Series concluded their sixteenth season with a first-time winner, while crowning a three-time champion, during the running of the “Retro Custom Metals 150 presented by Pinnacle Peak Steakhouse”. Blaine Rocha finally captured his first career series win at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, while Derek Thorn was able to secure his record tying third championship, to join Jim Pettit II in that category. Christian McGhee was formally crowned the series Rookie of the Year, in a season that saw him earn the Rookie of the Race Award, in all nine points paying events.

The Rocha effort was quite remarkable in itself, as he went from hero to zero and back again. Blaine's roller coaster weekend began with practice, in which he was only four one-thousandths off of Thorn's quick time. Practice ended with Blaine's Chevrolet in the pit exit wall, after hitting speedy dry while exiting the track at a high rate of speed. The result was a destroyed race car, and a return to his All American 400 car, that brought him home seventh in that event.

“We spent all day Friday getting our primary car really good, but we pulled this red car out and it was just as fast. I think in the race it might have been even faster”, Rocha commented.

Derek Thorn set fast time, for a series record 39th time, over the track record 36 car field. His 14.187, on the three-eighths mile paved oval, was also a new track record. Blaine Rocha was a surprising second quick, followed by Donny St. Ours, Jeremy Doss and Ryan Cansdale. The large field necessitated a B Main Event, to transfer three cars, in which to fill out the 30 car field. Justin Simonson, from Colorado, was the winner of that event, with Luke Hall second, and Jason Gilbert making a late race pass of Scott Sanchez, to claim the final Main Event position.

The top eight cars in qualifying redrew for starting positions in the feature event, with Rocha pulling the one pill to start on the pole. Bobby Hodges started second followed by Donnie St. Ours, Bullring Open winner Linny White, Jeremy Doss, Derek Thorn, Ryan Cansdale and Brandon White. When the field went green, Rocha jumped to a quick lead, but the yellow came out on lap 2, when Jeremy Doss pulled into the infield with a broken driveshaft. It was a disappointing result for the Montana 200 winner, who had lead several practice sessions during the weekend.

The ensuing restart only lasted a few more laps, when a chain reaction accident eliminated 2015 SPEARS Southwest Tour Series Champion Jacob Gomes. Upon the next green, the field calmed down and ran the next 30 circuits without incident. Rocha pulled away to a comfortable lead, but the top 5, and the rest of the field was in constant flux. Only two additional minor yellows saw the field reach the completion of the first 75 lap segment. Rocha led Bobby Hodges, Derek Thorn, Eric Richardson, Ryan Cansdale, Brandon White, Linny White, Craig Raudman, Trevor Huddleston and Christian McGhee to the break, with a total of 18 cars still on the lead lap.

The lap 75 restart saw Rocha once again jump out to a lead, in the highly preferred lower groove. Thorn was able to follow Rocha with Hodges dropping all the way to fifth, in the outside line. With 32 laps of green flag racing, Thorn was able to stay within striking range of Rocha, but contact with the lapped car of Cale Kanke was a major setback to his effort.

“We made a couple of small changes at the middle of the race, and felt we had something for the 21 (Rocha)”, Thorn said. “He could fire off a little better than we could, but I thought we were a little better on the long run. Then the 33 (Kanke) got into me going into Turn 3, and knocked the toe out. I went from a one tight to a four tight. From then on, it was just a matter of which lane you were in on each restart. It was just a matter of hanging on out there, as there were like four or five guys, to where we were just like ping pong balls out there.”

The lap 107 caution, for Matthew Meech and Andre Prescott, would set up a revolving door for the second place position battle. Thorn, Cansdale and Hodges would exchange the position multiple times, with each new restart. There was hard racing throughout the top ten, but by the lap 134 caution, Thorn had once again regained the second position, after battling inside of Cansdale for five consecutive laps. For Cansdale, the caution could have been a stroke of luck, as he was showing the rare strength of being able to compete in the outer groove. The ensuing restart, however, ended Cansdale’s chance for victory, when a spin in Turn 2, sent him to the rear of the field.

The final restart of the race, on lap 140, saw Rocha leading Thorn, Hodges, St. Ours, Brandon White, Christian McGhee, Linny White, Eric Schmidt, Keith Spangler and Eric Richardson. The single file restart, by rule, found Rocha jumping out to another quick lead, with Thorn slowly loosing contact. The battle for third saw St. Ours get under Hodges, with B. White and McGhee following. B. White would take third from St Ours, two laps later, and McGhee would wrestle that position away from White in the next turn. That would not last, however, as accordion type contact, between the group, found White back to third, with McGhee in pursuit. As the laps wound down, White and McGhee found themselves closing on the ill handling Thorn machine. On lap 148 White was able to get under Thorn for second, with McGhee securing third on the final corner. Thorn was able to hold on to fourth followed by Hodges, St Ours, John Nesmith, Richardson and Cansdale, with Eric Schmidt rounding out the top 10.

It was a dominating performance by Rocha, who had grown stronger as the season neared completion. For Blaine, it was a victory that was a long time in the making, and showed the strength of both he and his team.

Rocha began, “The car was flawless the whole time. I could not have asked for a better race car, quite honestly. From green to checkered, I led every lap and I’m really happy with how this Port City car performed. I’m so happy with this crew. For all the hard work that they did this year and through all the bad luck that we had this season, we finally came out with a win and I couldn’t be happier.” Blaine continued, “Finally, my first Super Late Model win! I have been waiting to check this one off of my list for a long time. I have won a lot of races in other divisions and stuff like that, but to win one in the SPEARS Southwest Tour means a lot to me. Now that we have won one, I think coming back next year that they will come a lot easier now.”

Brandon White finished second, for his best result of the season, after a fierce battle with his fellow competitors. He used a strategy, for this event, that he credits to another SPEARS Southwest Tour Series combatant. “The first half of the race I just sat there and cruised”, Brandon said. “I talked to Derek (Thorn), before the race, and he gave me some good advice, about just saving your stuff during the first part of the race, so I did. With about 40 laps to go, I just turned it on. On that next to the last restart, I just felt the car hook-up. I don’t know what happened or what I did, but the car just hugged the bottom better than I have ever felt it before. We had 150 laps on the tires and it felt like I just started the race. I was behind Derek there at the end, and his car just kept getting bigger and bigger, so my smile just got bigger and bigger. I’m just blown away that the guys put an amazing car under me. The North Coast Lighting, DirtCop Toyota Camry was just bad-fast tonight.”

Christian McGhee finished third, with a car that also came to life late in the event. Even though he didn’t win the $10,000 first place prize, he was happy for his teammate who did.

Christian began, “You know, this is a $10,000 to win race, so everyone wants it. We didn’t have anything for the 21 car (Rocha), but I am so proud of them that their team went out on top. I would’ve obviously liked it to be me, but there is no one else that I would rather see win this race. I am proud of Blaine, and he is a good teammate.” Christian continued, “I’m so proud of my guys. Something happened in the last 15 laps and this baby came to life. I wish it would have happened earlier, and I don’t know if it was the driver or the car, but track position here is so key, we just didn’t have it. This team had a good run this year, as we were the only team to finish in the top 10 in every race. I’m proud of them, and what we have accomplished this year, and hopefully I’ll have something for next year, so please come and pick me up”, Christian laughed.

Derek Thorn finished fourth in the event, but claimed the biggest prize of the season, with his third championship.

Derek said, “I’m just proud of the Campbell Motorsports Team really. We put together a great season, and had five wins this year on the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour. They work so hard to have the car prepared for each and every event and I’m just so fortunate to have Byron and Carol Campbell as my car owners.”

Bobby Hodges was the final driver in the top 5, but was mixing it up with the top group the entire race. With 10 to go he was in third position, but managed to hang on to that top 5.

“On that last restart it got a little dicey and everyone was bouncing off of each other, so I ended up falling back to fifth. I’m not going to lie to you though; it was a lot of fun. It was some good hard racing with some good drivers, so I can’t complain”, Hodges recalled.

The SPEARS Southwest Tour Series now heads for its winter break, with the momentum of two consecutive records car counts. The next event will be the 2017 Winter Showdown on February 9-11, 2017.

Final Results: 1) Blaine Rocha, 2) Brandon White, 3) Christian McGhee*, 4) Derek Thorn, 5) Bobby Hodges, 6) Donny St. Ours, 7) John Nesmith, 8) Eric Richardson, 9) Ryan Cansdale, 10) Eric Schmidt, 11) Linny White*, 12) Matthew Meech*, 13) Keith Spangler, 14) Carlos Vieira, 15) Justin Simonson, 16) Andre Prescott*, 17) Dan Holtz, 18) Jason Gilbert, 19) Trevor Huddleston*, 20) Luke Hall*, 21) Cale Kanke*, 22) Craig Raudman, 23) Ricky Schlick*, 24) Lance Wilson*, 25) Bob Lyon, 26) Stan Mullis, 27) Dennis Furden*, 28) Jacob Gomes, 29) Toni McCray, 30) Jeremy Doss.

The Havasu 95 Speedway will be presenting their traditional Thanksgiving weekend special racing show, with the very clever name of "Nitro Turkey Racing", this Saturday afternoon. This event is a special day race. The spectator gates will open at 12pm with the racing action receiving the green flag at 2pm. This full day of winter season racing is being presented by the Anderson Group and Pinstriping By Chris, (909 208 7016). There will also be a special appearance from the Pony Stocks with many of their team towing in from Southern California the location of their home track: the Orange Show Speedway.

The speedway's Late Model division will be making their 2016 - 2017 winter season debut this Saturday and will treat their fans to a 100 lap main event. Trevor Huddleston, the 2015 - 2016 reigning is expected to be on hand to defend his title. He can expect plenty of competition from drivers Bobby Keirns, a former Havasu Late Model champion, along with Jeff Peterson, Matt Goodwin and Mark Allison. All of these competitive drivers finished in the top five of the championship points at the conclusion of last year's winter racing season.

The Sam Nichols Electric Factory Stocks will be making their fifth appearance of this season this Saturday afternoon. Jeff Prieur has been the division's hot shoe so far and leads the championship points standings with 203 points based on a consistent three feature wins and a runner up finish. However, he's only nine points ahead of driver Chris Blackwell who had logged four top five finishes, with two of them being second place runs.

The Flowers Assisted Living Team Factory Stocks is a concept that features three rotating drivers. The series will be making its second appearance of the current winter season season this Saturday afternoon. The aforementioned Jeff Prieur won the division's first main event with Jose Guevara finishing second. The series' teams will be racing on a special oval carved out in the speedway's dirt infield area which should present a strong challenge for the drivers as well as a high level of entertainment for the fans.

The Office Cocktail Lounge Bandoleros will be making their second appearance of the winter racing season. Brock Rogers won the series' season debut and will go into next Saturday afternoon with a two point advantage, in the championship standings, over Ethan Deguevara. In fact, there are only 13 points the top eight drivers in those current points standings which indicates that the series is going to have an extremely competitive season. Remember, when you watch these youngsters race, you may very well be watching the future driving stars of tomorrow.

General admission tickets, age 17 plus, are $12 and $10 for seniors, age 55 plus, military personnel and the handicapped. Kid's tickets, age six to 16, are $6. The speedway also offers a budget friendly family package, value priced at $25, which admits two adults and two kids. Silliker Adds To Historic Season With Plaza Non Wing Victory

LEMOORE, CALIFORNIA (November 22, 2016) – In the third different type of race car this season, 11 year-old Ben Silliker took a place in the history books as the youngest in his field. Saturday night, Silliker became the youngest known Non Wing Micro Sprint race winner in the nation at Plaza Park Raceway. The Turkey Night victory gives Silliker 11 main event wins on the year. His 2016 historic accomplishments include becoming the youngest feature starter in the Kyle Larson Outlaw Kart Showcase and the youngest winner in the Jr. Late Models at Madera. Both of those accomplishments took place during Silliker's busy September.

Silliker has accumulated 70 feature starts thus far this year across the three divisions. His younger brother Alex, his Team Silco Racing teammate, is nearing 40 starts this season as well.

Both nights of racing at Plaza Park in Visalia, CA included full main events with Ben Silliker running double duty in Non Wing Micros and Outlaw Karts on Friday night. Silliker flipped in the Non Wing feature, but had a strong showing in the open 500cc Outlaw Karts in a rare Plaza Park appearance to finish third. Alex Silliker ran just outside the top-five with a sixth place run in Jr. Sprint.

The focus turned to Saturday night with just Non Wing and Jr. Sprint on the menu. The focus paid off with Ben Silliker fending off a late race charge from Mason Daniel to claim the feature win and put himself in the history books. Very few tracks in the country allow drivers under 12 to compete in Non-Wing, with Silliker at the very least the youngest in 2016 if not in Micro Sprint history to win a Non-Wing main event. The big win is part of a busy stretch going back to September 17th where the youngster has finished no worse that 9th in Non-Wing. Alex Silliker ran seventh in the Jr. Sprint competition on Saturday as well.

Team Silco Racing's season does not have any signs of slowing down, with the two day Thanksgiving Nationals at the Chowchilla Barnburner on tap for Friday and Saturday night. The indoor Outlaw Kart events have been rapidly growing. Ben Silliker has finished first and second in his two starts at the bullring this year.

Fast Four Media will have live coverage of the weekend's activities at www.FastFourMedia.com Silliker's win at Madera Speedway in the Jr. Late Models on September 24th will air Thursday December 1st on MAVTV. The show airs at 5 pm and 8 pm Pacific and is also available on the Lucas Oil Racing app.

Dave Grayson's Hot Racing Tickets For November 19th

LAS VEGAS BULLRING. 3/8 MILE. LAS VEGAS, NV. www.lvms.com/bullring. SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 19TH.

I've always said that the words racing and Las Vegas belongs in the same sentence. Per a long standing tradition, the Las Vegas Bullring will be presenting their annual, season closing, West Coast Short Track Championships this Saturday night. This event is loaded with some of the best driving talent from the western states and will feature the Spears SRL Southwest Tour, The Lucas Oil Modified Racing Series and the RACE CAR Factory Spec Late Models. Put it all together and it's going to be another stellar night of stock car racing in Las Vegas.

The highlight of the evening will be the Spears SRL Southwest Tour's 2016 season finale. The Retro Custom Metals 150, presented by the Pinnacle Peak Steak House, is expected to be a very intense affair. That's largely due to the $10,000 check that goes to the race winner. In recent days SRL officials announced that a beautiful, custom made, cupola will also be presented to the race winner. Described as a copper masterpiece, this winner's cup is valued at $6,000 and is courtesy of race sponsor Retro Custom Metals.

As far as the series' points championship goes, it appears that Derek Thorn, and his Campbell Motorsports team, is in good shape to take another series title based on five main event wins this season. The Lakeport, California driver has won previous series championships in 2012 and 2014 and is the winningest driver in the SRL. He goes into Saturday night's race with a healthy points lead over two time winner Ryan Cansdale.

The Lucas Oil Production Studios will be in Las Vegas Saturday night to film the race for the company owned MAV TV Motorsports Network. The race will be presented for national broadcast on January 24th.

Making an equally impressive appearance Saturday will be the Lucas Oil Modified Racing Series, presented by Loan Mart. This outstanding regional touring series will be treating their fans to the running of the 51 FIFTY Energy Drink 101, presented by Optima Batteries. This race will be ran in two segments. The first segment, laps 1 through 51, will be ran early in the evening. The final 50 lap segment will be ran later that night and will determine the race winner.

Championship points are not a part of the equation on Saturday night. Matthew Hicks took care of winning the series' championship, at the Arizona based Havasu 95 Speedway, back on October 29th. That means the Las Vegas race is about major bragging rights along with a $4,000 winner's check.

This race will be carried live Saturday night on Lucas Oil Racing (Dot) TV. This recently launched live stream computer broadcast system features high level broadcast quality that is well worth the very budget friendly priced subscription rates. The broadcast is scheduled for 8pm eastern time.

The Las Vegas racing weekend will begin on Friday night with an open practice session, for all divisions, from 2pm to 9pm. The grandstands will be available to the fans free of charge Friday night. On Saturday the spectator gates will open at 2pm. The day begins with qualifying followed by twin heat races from the RACE CAR Factory Spec Late Models and a 40 lap B Main from the Lucas Oil Modified Racing Series. Official opening ceremonies will be held at 5pm followed by the start of main events from the three racing divisions.

General admission tickets are $12. There are also discounts available for kids, age six to 12, as well as seniors and military personnel. A budget friendly family four pack is also available. Fans can save money on available ticket packages by visiting the speedways tickets office or by calling 1 800 644 4444. Advance tickets can also be ordered through the speedway's website or through Ticketmaster.

In still more good news is the fact that the Las Vegas Bullring has an extremely fan friendly concession stand that features $2 hot dogs and Cola Cola products along with $3 Budweiser products.

"Racing For Our Troops" This Saturday At The Havasu 95 Speedway

By Dave Grayson

The Havasu 95 Speedway will unlock its gates this Saturday evening to present the latest round of their 2016-2017 winter racing series. This special evening is titled " Racing For Our Troops". Veterans and active duty personnel from America's armed forces will receive $2 discounts on their tickets. It's one more way for the speedway to thank our troops, past and present, for their service to our country.

Saturday night will also be the start of the speedway's annual Toys 4 Tots Bicycle Drive. The ultra successful campaign in past years has raised funding in order to provide the Christmas morning surprise of a brand new bike to children from needy families, This special evening is being presented by the Mojave State Bank.

The quarter mile paved oval is located within the Sara Park complex in beautiful Lake Havasu City, Arizona. The spectator gates will open at 4pm followed by racing at 6pm. This speedway specializes in good racing shows and Saturday night's race agenda is loaded with plenty of driving talent. Providing the on track action will be the speedway's Get It In Gear Street Stocks, Havasu Wiring Outlaw Karts and the Sam Nichols Electric Factory Stocks. The racing action is going to be enhanced by special two special guest divisions: the Arizona Vintage Racing Association's collection of midget and sprint cars along with the always exciting Southwest Tour Trucks.

After three appearances so far this season, it's become apparent that the Get It In Gear Street Stocks are going to, once again, treat the fans to a very intense championship run similar to the championship show they presented last season. Tyler Savage won the division's season opener and backed that with a third and second place finish. That effort places him at the top of the current championship standings with 149 points. However, he's only a single point ahead of reigning champ Bobby Keirns who won the series' most recent main event. Garrett Reinoso is ranked third in the standings only six points from the leader while speedway veteran William Guevara, who won the second race of the season, is ranked fourth, nine points out of first.

The Havasu Wiring Outlaw Karts' championship profile is led by driver Taylor Whitefield who has garnered a feature win along with three runner up finishes for a total of 292 points. However, Korbin Mitchell, who won the last two main events, is only four points away from the top of the championship standings. This will be two drivers to keep an eye on this Saturday night.

The fan favorite Sam Nichols Electric Factory Stocks will be making their fourth appearance of the season this Saturday night. Reigning division champion Brent Delay, with a feature win, and Jeff Prieur, who has two feature wins, are the current hot shoes in this very popular series.

However, Prieur's two feature wins has invoked a rather interesting set of circumstances. That would be the two win rule that was re-implemented by Promoter Bill Rozhon for the 2016-2017 winter season. The division's official rule book states: "after a car wins two races, it will no longer be eligible for first place points. If a car has already won two races and wins a third race, the car will be disqualified, (no points), and the win and the first place points will go to the 2nd place finisher and on down the finisher list. This rule applies to the car and not the driver."

The Arizona Vintage Racing Association, (AVRA), is another fan favorite anytime they schedule a visit to the Havasu 95 Speedway. Headquartered at Buckeye, Arizona, this motorsports group is dedicated to the mission of ownership, racing and enjoyment of vintage race cars. These open wheels race cars are carefully preserved replicas of the midget and sprint car racers that dates back to the barnstorming days when the early racing heroes criss crossed the country appearing at dirt tracks all over America. The AVRA will also be participate in the speedway's pre race fan meet and greet. The drivers love meeting the fans while answering questions about the history of their cars. The AVRA is a total class act and extremely entertaining on the track.

The Southwest Tour Trucks was formed in 2009 and is headquartered in Newberry Park, California. This high energy regional touring series spends their racing season visiting race tracks located in California, Arizona and Nevada. This show is comprised of full sized pick up trucks featuring Chevrolets, Fords, Dodge and Toyota. They raise high levels of racing entertainment at all of their appearances and are often considered to be the ultimate tail gate party.

General admission adult tickets, age 17 plus, are $12. Tickets for seniors, age 55 plus, handicapped patrons and military personnel are $10 but, remember, military personnel will be entitled to the additional "Racing For Our Troops" discount. Kid's tickets, age six to 16, are $6. The speedway also offers a budget friendly family pack, priced at $25, which admits two adults and two kids. Fans can also enjoy the special amenities of the speedway's VIP section, featuring the best seats in the house, for $25.

Zamora Earns 2016 JPR Rookie of the Year Award

Wenatchee, WA (October 28, 2016) – From her start in go-karts then migrating to Mini Stocks and other forms of circle track racing, Brittney Zamora has found success in each division. In her first year of Northwest Super Late Model Series competition the 17-year old focused on continued racing success culminating with an effort to capture the Jefferson Pitts Racing Rookie of the Year title.

Closing out the season with strong runs at the Yakima Speedway Fall Classic and Neal Newberry 125 at Wenatchee Valley’s Super Oval, Zamora amassed the points needed to reach her goal.

The second-generation Kennewick, WA driver admits it was a team effort to capture this year’s JPR Rookie of the Year title.

“It means that all of our hard work is paying off. Including the long shop nights and endless practice days.” Said the Kennewick High School student. “It also means that we reached our goal that we set for ourselves at the beginning of this year by winning the Jefferson Pitts Racing Rookie of the Year.”

In addition to earning the Rookie of the Year award, Zamora claimed fourth place in the NWSLMS Championship standings, just two points out of third. Being a rookie in a super late model series was tough, but a learning experience for Zamora.

“I feel that I really learned a lot! The level of competition in the NWSLMS is tougher than any other that I have ever raced against before. I enjoy it and how it keeps pushing my team and I to do better and better every time on the track!”

By winning the Jefferson Pitts Racing Rookie of the Year, Zamora will get the opportunity to test at Yakima Speedway with Jefferson Pitts Racing NASCAR K&N West team. Over the last two seasons the JPR K&N organization has become one of the top programs in the country with wins in both the NASCAR K&N West and East Series. One of JPR’s drivers, Noah Gragson, just signed to compete full time on the Camping World Truck Series with Kyle Busch Motorsports.

“We’ve enjoyed our partnership with the Northwest Super Late Model Series this year and watching the first-year drivers develop. We’re very happy for Brittney Zamora and what she accomplished this year on the series.” said JPR Co-Owner, Jeff Jefferson. “We look forward to working with her and having Brittney test one of our NASCAR K&N cars in the near future.”

Zamora will be looking to make the most of the test session with JPR.

“This opportunity means that I get the chance to gain the experience of the next level of circle track racing with a great team like Jefferson Pitts Racing. I am so excited to get the chance to do this and I hope to prove to myself and others that I can compete at the next level if given the opportunity!”

Heading into the offseason after a successful rookie campaign, Zamora and her team aren’t slowing down anytime soon.

“Our plans for next year are to compete full time in the NWSLMS and to improve in our point standings for the year! We would also love to win a series race and be a front runner consistently throughout the year.”

Zamora won the JPR Rookie of the Year award over Spokane, WA driver Dirk Bennett. The award was given by scoring the driver’s best seven races out of an eight-race season. Zamora claimed 261 points while Bennett earned 211 points. Bennett finished ninth in the 2016 NWSLMS championship standings.

Zamora will receive her Jefferson Pitts Racing Rookie of the Year award in January at the NWSLMS Banquet. The award will be one of many given out by series at its January banquet, as over $25,000 in cash and awards will be presented to eligible drivers and teams.
