Gragson Opens Utah Weekend In Victory Lane

TOOLE, Utah (Sept. 10, 2016) – Noah Gragson put a near-miss on a road-course behind him Saturday.

Gragson redeemed himself at Utah Motorsports Campus with a win in the Utah 110 presented by Ken Garff Volvo, the first race of the weekend doubleheader at the 3.048-mile road course. It was the first NASCAR K&N Pro Series West win of the season for the 17-year-old NASCAR Next driver and sweet redemption after coming up short and settling for second-place at California's Sonoma Raceway in June.

The Las Vegas, Nevada, driver took the lead from Todd Gilliland with nine laps to go to earn his first NASCAR K&N Pro Series West victory of the season.

The NASCAR Next driver started the race in fourth in the No. 7 SPEEDVEGAS/AlertID/Colliers International Ford. Gragson spent most of the race behind Ryan Partridge and Gilliland conserving his tires and waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike. His window opened when Partridge cut a tire with 13 laps to go and it continued when Gilliland made a mistake late in the race.

Gragson capitalized on the error to take the lead and cruise to Victory Lane.

It was Gragson's fourth career K&N Pro win. Earlier this season, he won the K&N Pro East race at Connecticut's Stafford Motor Speedway.

Gilliland and Gragson’s Jefferson Pitts Racing teammate Gracin Raz finished second and third, respectively, at Utah. Gilliland’s Bill McAnally Racing teammates Julia Landauer and Riley Herbst rounded out the top five.

Blaine Perkins, Will Rodgers, Tim Spurgeon, Partridge and Cole Rouse completed the top 10.

Gilliland was able to push his lead to 11 over Partridge, who won the Coors Light Pole Award earlier Saturday. Gragson is third in points, 29 behind Partridge and one in front of Raz.

The K&N Pro Series West will be back in action tomorrow afternoon for the second doubleheader event at Utah Motorsports Campus. The green flag will be at 2:15 p.m. local time. The lineup for Sunday's race was set based on the driver's best lap in Saturday's race. Partridge will start on the pole and will be joined on the front row by Gilliland. Gragson and Riley Herbst will make up Row 2.

The Utah doubleheaders will air on NBCSN Saturday, September 17 from 9-10pm ET / 7-9pm MT.

Davey Hamilton, Jr. Makes Indy Lights Debut At Laguna Seca

INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA (September 10, 2016) – Third generation driver Davey Hamilton, Jr. made his Indy Lights presented by Cooper Tires debut on Saturday afternoon, finishing in the 14th position in the Impact Racing / Piloti Shoes / Kingdom Racing / Dahl Tug and Barge / Cocomo Natural McCormack Racing #34 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Hamilton finished one lap down in the 30 lap race after starting in the 15th position.

The 19 year-old King of the Wing Western Sprint Car Series champion and 2016 national series points leader made his debut start with an eye on a full 2017 campaign. He will compete again in Sunday's 50 minute finale which also serves as the championship race for the series.

"I'm glad it is a two race deal. Two races is great to be able to be here another day and probably improve tomorrow," Hamilton said. "Tomorrow should be a crazier race because it is the championship race. I think we'll be better tomorrow. Probably get same outcome as today with just being happy to finish. It is great to be here and I can't thank the McCormack crew and family enough for getting me here. We are a definitely a small team compared to everybody else and we don't have the resources but we'll get there."

Hamilton qualified 15th with a 1:21.047 second lap, a half second improvement over the second Friday practice and two seconds better than his initial Friday times.

He immediately jumped up to 14th after a spin in front of him and maintained 14th for much of the race. He moved as high as 13th on the second lap and ran briefly in P13 again near the halfway point of the race as well. His best lap of the race was a 1:20.8394 on his ninth lap of the race.

Hamilton began being overtaken by the leaders within the final laps of the race, including a close moment coming to the white flag when Garrett Grist jumped out of gear on the front stretch. Hamilton had jumped to the inside to let a trio of leaders by and narrowly snaked through for a three-wide moment.

"So I can tell you the last lap of the race was definitely the craziest lap of the race," Hamilton said. "Going under the bridge, the leaders were coming up behind me and a car in front of me came out of gear. We ended up going three wide and it was a tight fit and kind of hairy. I think it was a good experience to experience being close to other cars."

Hamilton and the McCormack Racing crew will focus on increased rear grip and more consistent lap times in tomorrow's second race of the weekend. The event is scheduled to go green at 1:10 p.m. and will be available on IndyLights.com or the Road To Indy App.

Davey Hamilton, Jr. and Jack McCormack are looking for additional funding to secure a full-time campaign for the 2017 season. McCormack Racing would like to run as many as two full time entries. SATURDAY RACE RUN DOWN
McCormack Racing #34 IL-15
September 10, 2016 Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca | Monterey, CA
Start: 15th | Finish: 14th. 29/30 laps completed

DAVEY HAMILTON, JR. QUOTES
"Yes it so it started off pretty stable for the first few laps then it got loose. We know what the problem is and we're going to adjust and get better tomorrow."

"I definitely laid back a little bit farther than everybody else (on the start). But I also knew going into turn one it was going to be crazy. Everybody kind of stayed clear and luckily I was able to miss a person instead of hitting him. Everything went good there. They are a lot more fun than the sprint car starts."

"It was tough for me to be able to keep my lap times consistent. Once I saw a leader come close to me I definitely wanted to let them by and not affect their race. There's some improvements I can make to be consistent when I'm alone and by myself out there. I def have a few things in mind for tomorrow. We'll just move on and learn from it."

"So I can tell you the last lap of the race was definitely the craziest lap of the race. Going under the bridge, the leaders were coming up behind me and a car in front of me came out of gear. We ended up going three wide and it was a tight fit and kind of hairy. I think it was a good experience to experience being close to other cars."

Silliker Makes Larson Showcase Feature As One Of 2016 Highlights

LEMOORE, CALIFORNIA (September 9, 2016) – 11 year-old Ben Silliker is used to being the youngest driver wherever he goes in his racing career. But the Team Silco Development Driver and Northern Alberta, Canada transplant recently took a major step. Silliker qualified for the feature in Tuesday's Kyle Larson Outlaw Kart Showcase at Cycleland Speedway in Oroville, CA, making the main event for the 500cc Open class against over 100 entries.

The massive entry list included NASCAR and World of Outlaws drivers including Rico Abreu and Kyle Larson. Making the feature event adds to an impressive season with seven race wins across Micros, Outlaw Karts, and pavement Jr. Late Models. Silliker ranks in the top-five of the inaugural USAC Micro Series restricted national championship and third in the world's first Madera 51FIFTY Jr. Late Models, televised on MAVTV. Tuesday's run in the second annual Kyle Larson Showcase made him the youngest feature starter ever.

Monday night's competition was a standalone preliminary, with no bearing on Tuesday's Showcase. Silliker flexed his muscles early by running eighth out of 105 entries in hot laps. With no time trials, fields for the heat races were set by random draw where Silliker ran sixth in his heat race and failed to make the feature.

Silliker only ran 91st out of 129 cars in hot laps on Tuesday but again it did not affect his placement in the heat races. He charged forward from the back of his qualifier, running ninth after the opening lap but working his way up to third at the checkered flag. Passing points qualified Silliker directly into the dash where he finished eighth.

The 40 lap feature saw 29 karts on the grid with Silliker starting fourth. He jumped up to third on in the opening laps before a flat tire relegated him to the back of the field. The young driver was undeterred and battled with drivers such as Larson and Abreu as he tried to make his way back through the pack. He eventually crossed the checkered flag in 16th position to end a busy main event in a career-defining night.

Silliker ran the weekend before with mechanical problems at Plaza Park Raceway during their two-day show, followed by a Sunday appearance at Delta Speedway where he ran third in the Restricted Micros main event during the "Dual at Delta"

He ended August with the sixth round of the world's first 51FIFTY Jr. Late Models, a full-size stock car series at Madera Speedway. A third place finish in that event has him in strong contention for second in the standings as the youngest driver in a series that averages 13 entrants per race.

His 2016 campaign with wind down with additional USAC Micro Series national races at Dixon Speedway this weekend and Plaza Park Raceway on Friday September 23rd. Lemoore Raceway will be the destination on September 17th while Madera Speedway will compete on September 24th.

His October and November plans will include many special events such as Madera's Short Track Shootout and Delta's Turkey Bowl XVI. Two-day shows at Dixon and Plaza Park are also tentatively on the Team Silco Racing schedule in November.

Race fans can follow Ben Silliker's progress from Madera on MAVTV every Thursday night or on the LucasOilRacing.TV app. Many of his major Outlaw Kart and Micro Sprint races are streamed on FastFourMedia.com Check the website for dates and times.

The Wild One Mitch Kleyn Back at WVSO

Wenatchee, Wash. (September 7, 2016)– The town of Quincy, WA is known for the famous potatoes and corn they grow. Mitch Kleyn has been growing as a top Northwest Super Late Models Series driver and bringing spotlight on the small town in the racing community. This weekend Kleyn will look to make a victory trip back to Quincy from the Neal Newberry 125 at Wenatchee Valley Super Oval.

Kleyn has finished second to Garrett Evans in the NWSLMS Championship the past two seasons but this year Kleyn has been even stronger in his performances including his first podium finish in series history. The success of this season started in the offseason when Kleyn purchased a new car from Racing Dynamics and brought them along to the track for set up and support.

“Working with Travis (Sharpe) and Daniel (Henderson) from Racing Dynamics has been amazing this year. The new car has been fast everywhere we went and now it’s starting to reflect on our finishes these past few races”

The finishes are coming at the right time for the Wild 1 team with three Top-10 finishes in the last three races including a third place finish at Stateline. The upfront finishes have put Kleyn in a close point’s race with Ryan Wells, Braeden Havens and Brittney Zamora for the second through fifth in the 2016 NWSLMS Championship points race with just two races remaining.

The year has had its downs as well with Kleyn having very fast cars the first two races but mechanical issues sent him to the pits costing him valuable points.

“We didn’t start off so well with some issues that we had with the motor but our car was still really fast. We knew that we needed to put that behind us and focus on the positives for the rest of the season. Working with Daniel as our Crew Chief has really made me focus on the set ups of the car and getting it dialed in during practices.”

The season has also seen Kleyn, spend some time pulling double duty during some race weekends as both driver and crew chief with his 8 year old son Kasey racing Bandoleros.

“It’s different when I’m watching Kasey race with him being just 8 and racing at 60mph. He’s done really well and not very many dads can say they get to race at the track the same weekend as their kids. Our family is a racing family and we really enjoy being at the track”

With the 2016 season coming down to the final two races the Wild 1 team will head back to familiar territory when they return to their home track of Wenatchee Valley Super Oval this weekend for the Neal Newberry 125.

“We’re getting better and better as the year has gone on. Wenatchee is one of my favorite tracks and we’re looking forward to trying to bring home a win. We had a really good car here in April and led some laps. Only a couple of races left and it would be nice to finish off the year strong, especially at Wenatchee.”

The victory won’t come easy for the series veteran this weekend as one of the largest fields of the year will be on hand as 25 Super Late Models are expected. Evans has wins on the year but is still looking for his first series win at his home track. Fellow Quincy native and 2015 Rookie of Year Glenn Knutson will try to improve off his fifth place finish at the race last year.

Some of the NWSLMS top drivers like Wells, Havens, Zamora, Ed Thomsen and Clint Habart will be looking to hold off some local favorites and past series winners Shane Mitchell and Brent Harris. This weekend will also see some outsiders in the mix like former NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Tyler Tanner, past Evergreen Speedway Winner Doni Wanat along with Southern Oregon standouts Alan Cress and Wade Koens. This will be one of the biggest Super Late Model fields in the Northwest this year.

Action gets underway Friday with an open practice session for the NWSLMS teams. Saturday features the NWSLMS Neal Newberry 125 main event along with WESCO Sprint Cars and Dick’s Heating and Air Conditioning Thunder Cars.

Two Races In Two Days At UMC Could Have Big Title Implications

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Sept. 6, 2016) – The NASCAR K&N Pro Series West will return to Utah Motorsports Campus, formerly Miller Motorsports Park, this weekend for an action-packed doubleheader.

The series last visited the 3.048-mile road course in 2014 with David Mayhew taking home the trophy after leading only seven laps.

The track has celebrated many other notable winners, such as two-time NASCAR Pinty’s Series champion Andrew Ranger and K&N Pro Series West champion Greg Pursley, who won three back-to-back events at the track.

The double-header will be the first series’ event held at the track since it closed in 2014. It opened at the start of the season under new ownership.

The Saturday and Sunday races should prove to hold the same excitement as Todd Gilliland and Ryan Partridge continue their back-and-forth battle for the championship. The two are separated by only five points (424-419) and have held the top two spots for all but one race and have collected seven wins in the 10 races so far.

Gilliland will look for some road course redemption, after he lost the points lead when he got caught up in a wreck on Lap 1 during the series last road-course race at California’s Sonoma Raceway.

Should a similar misfortune strike at Salt Lake City for the two leaders, defending champion Chris Eggleston sits just 19 points back in third and five drivers are within 21 points of his spot.

The Procedure: The starting field for both races is 30 cars. The first 26 cars will be determined by qualifying with the remaining four slots being awarded through the provisional process. Saturday’s qualifying will be determined through NASCAR Road Race Style, group qualifying, while Sunday’s field will be determined by a driver’s fastest lap in Saturday’s race.

The Track: Was originally created as a novelty track for Larry H. Miller, owner of the Utah Jazz, and various car dealerships to use as a personal playground. It was opened to the public in April 2006. The Full Course is a 23-turn, 4.486-mile road circuit that runs counterclockwise. The additional tracks can be configured from the larger course.

The Records: Qualifying: Greg Pursley, Ford, 117.250 (mph), Sept. 13, 2014. Race: 36 Laps – Greg Pursley, Ford, 1 hour 24 minutes 26 seconds, 77.975 mph, Sept. 12, 2010.

Utah Motorsports Campus Notes:
Can The Gene Price Success Continue With JPR?: Greg Pursley won three consecutive races at Utah Motorsports Campus, then Miller Motorsports Park, with Gene Price Racing from 2010-2012. Fast forward four years later and the team is heading back to the track as the second-year team Jefferson Pitts Racing. Drivers Noah Gragson and Gracin Raz will look to use their past road course success to their advantage to keep climbing up the championship standings.

Gilliland & Eggleston Look For Road Course Rebound: Bill McAnally Racing teammates Todd Gilliland and Chris Eggleston are eager to get back on a road course. At the series last road course race at Sonoma Raceway, both drivers had strong practice and qualifying sessions before getting caught up in a multi-car wreck shortly after the green flag. The teammates and championship contenders will look to have better success Saturday and Sunday.

Ford Success: Ford drivers will look to build upon the manufacturer’s success at Utah Motorsports Campus this weekend. In the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West’s eight visits to the track, Ford has won five of those events. With six of the 22 cars slated to compete being Fords, Ryan Partridge being one of them, there’s a good chance for Ford to return to Victory Lane.

Track Deals: Utah Motorsports Campus has two great deals going on during this weekend’s doubleheader. County residents will receive a 50% discount and all military members and first responders will get two free tickets.

Late model title to be decided this Saturday night

By Matthew J. Sullivan

The final points event for Redwood Acres Raceway’s late model division is set to take place this Saturday September 10th for Mid City Motor World Night at the Races. It will be the next to last event for the Acres’ five other local divisions.

The battle for the California State and Federal Employees Credit Union roadrunner division is a two-man race at this point. Tyler Peach currently holds a 12 point lead over Steve Paiment. The battle for third in the standings is even closer as third through fifth are separated by only three points. Bethany Rapp currently holds down the third position while Dominic Vogelsang and Patrick Sproul round out the top five in the standings.
It appears as though James Moore has a lock on the Fortuna Wheel and Brake bomber division track championship. If Moore finishes the evening with a 43 point margin, he will be the 2016 division champ. Moore leads second place John Lally by 77 markers. Ryan Ahrens sits third in points followed by rookie driver, Kimberly Sorrels and Tyler Avelar in fifth.

Only five points separate the top three drivers in the Humboldt Hydroponics mini stock division. Gary Klinetobe leads Eugene Palmer by four points while Jarrett Mayo in third is a point behind Palmer. Rick Estes is fourth in the standings and has been a regular front runner all season long. Daniel Buell has been impressive in his rookie campaign in the division and is fifth in the championship standings.

The fight for the Thunder Roadster division crown is a tight, two man race. Tommy Payne and Ronnie O’Neil have traded the points lead several times in 2016 and the current gap between the two is a mere four points. Donnie Brown is third in the standings, while his brother Aaron Byers is fourth and only two points behind him. LeRoy Marsh, Jr. is fifth in the standings having returned to racing at the Acres for the first time in several years.
Robert Miller has a comfortable lead in the Legend point standings. Like James Moore in the bombers, if Miller leaves the night with a 43-point margin over whoever is in second place in the standings, he will lock up the 2016 track championship in the Legend division. Miller’s lead over second place Anissa Curtice is 30 points. Annissa’s father, Brad is third in the standings, 3 points behind his daughter. Brent Mack is fourth in points while M’Kinzy Usselton rounds out the top five in the standings.

As mentioned, the 2016 champion in the Mid City Motor World late model division will be decided this weekend. Mic Moulton has the lead by 12 points. The margin is anything but comfortable given that second place in the standings is Marty Walsh who has been as strong as Moulton all season long. Third in fourth in the standings are Jedd Ambrosini and Richard Knight. While both have an outside chance of claiming the division title, it will take major odds to swing in their favor as they are 18 and 21 points behind Moulton. Kenny Demello is fifth and though he’s mathematically alive, it will take a miracle for him to win this year’s title.

The final point race for the rest of the five local divisions will take place Saturday September 24th presented by Maxwell’s Custom Automobiles. In addition will be the special Big T Jackpot race for the roadrunners along with the second \boat race of the 2016 season. The Fall Spectacular will return on October 8th and 9th featuring all six local divisions in what promises to be a memorable ending to the 2016 season. For more information on everything going on at Redwood Acres Raceway including video of all the main events from this past Saturday night, please visit the track’s official website www.racingtheacres.com

Milburn Wins Thrilling Third Round Of Tri-Holiday At Stockton

STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA (September 3, 2016) - Eagle, ID's Travis Milburn was the sixth and final leader of a thrilling race at Stockton 99 Speedway on Saturday night, leading the last 18 laps for a $2500 victory. The Tri-Holiday Series race was the tenth round of the Pacific Challenge Series presented by PenneyLawyers.com and gave Milburn his first 2016 to win to go with a June victory at Roseville last year as well. Milburn fended off March Madera winner Jacob Gomes in a very exciting finish that thrilled a strong crowd at the 68 year old historic quarter-mile facility.

Jeremy Doss' seventh place finish was enough to give him the Tri-Holiday Series championship by two points over Gomes as well.

Jeff Bischofberger won the American Racer Tire Dash for $500 to win but was overhauled by Valley Springs' Tracy Bolin at the start with Bolin taking the lead. Manteca's Ross Strmiska followed through to take second as well.

Bischofberger tangled with Granite Bay's Cole Moore for the first caution of the race on lap five when Bischofberger spun. Both drivers had to go to the rear for the ensuing restart. Strmiska used the restart to snatch away the lead from Bolin on lap six.

Sunoco Fuels Fast Time Jason Romero of Cameron Park worked his way around Bolin for second on lap 13 and set his sights on the leader. Romero and Strmiska ran side-by-side on several occasions before the pair approached lapped traffic. Romero tried one more move to the inside of Strmiska, resulting in contact into turn four that sent Romero spinning. Romero was then hit hard by Bolin as well. The incident ended both Romero and Bolin's evenings and forced Strmiska to the rear of the field.

Points leader Jeremy Doss assumed the lead position but did not lead it for a complete lap as Modesto's Mike Beeler shot up the inside to be the third different leader on lap 23. Doss fought back on lap 35 and took the lead on lap 37. Milburn spun on lap 40 for a caution while things were heating up between Gomes and Matt Scott within the top-five.

Beeler and Doss traded the lead on lap 44, before Doss took over again and brought Scott and Gomes with him on the following laps. The trio of young drivers then anchored the field for much of the closing laps while Cole Moore and Milburn continued to regain positions navigating through the field.

A big crash on lap 71 brought the race to a red flag halt when Kyle Gottula slammed into the back of Strmiska in turn four. Both drivers were out of the race with Gottula disqualified from points and purse for his involvement.

Matt Scott made a bold move inside Doss into turn one that forced both drivers up the hill and out of the top-five but it was nullified by a caution for debris off of Adam Coonfield's car. On the second attempt, Doss managed to drive away from Scott with Gomes taking over second as well. the caution came out again on lap 75 when Beeler and Cole Moore got together.

Gomes seized the lead from Doss on lap 75 and two laps later JR Courage and John Moore had a melee. Beeler spun again on lap 81 for the race's final caution period.

Milburn took his shot at Gomes from the outside on the restart and took over the lead at lap 82. Gomes remained within striking distance all the way to the finish. On the white flag lap, Gomes tagged Milburn in turn three and dove to the inside to the give the fans a close finish. Milburn ripped across the stripe with the win by just a nose ahead of Gomes, Scott, Cole Moore, and John Moore.

Doss slipped backwards after losing the lead to eventually finish seventh, while Courage and Wendt went across the finish line against the wall in a large crash to punctuate the race.

Jacob Gomes won the Penney Racing Supply Hard Charger driving from 11th starting position to finish second. A strong purse of $2500 to win and $500 to start was presented by Reeves Sand and Gravel and Sunny Valley Smoked Meats.

The Pacific Challenge Series championship continues with its 11th and penultimate round on September 24th at Roseville's All American Speedway. For more information on the Pacific Challenge Series, visit them online at www.PacificChallengeSeries.com or on Facebook and YouTube.
