iPull-u-Pull Challenge Part Of Busy October 1st Program At Madera

MADERA, CALIFORNIA (September 16, 2016) – LoanMart Madera Speedway has announced a major event for October 1st, with the inaugural iPull-u-Pull National Sprint Car Challenge for Winged Sprints highlighting an exciting program on the one-third mile asphalt oval. The $3000 to win, $500 to start Winged Sprint Car race will be enhanced by the inaugural West Coast Sportsman 75, BCRA Midgets, CSS 360 Super Modifieds, HPD Midgets, and Legends of Kearney Bowl. The track's regular Modified Super Toyotas (MSTs) and Toyota Sedans will also compete in their season finales.

iPull-u-Pull located in Fresno is a new sponsor for Madera Speedway. They offer CashForCars for end of life vehicles or vehicles for sale. They offer the industry's first 60-day Cash Back Guarantee and cater to both the general public and mechanics who needs parts.

The National Sprint Car Challenge will serve as the season finale for the Madera Western Winged Super Sprints and will be televised on MAVTV. Entries from across the western United States are expected. Teams are encouraged to pre-enter by calling (209) 356-1968 or emailing kshepherd@racemadera.com This will be the third consecutive year that Madera has hosted national Winged Sprint Car competition to close its open wheel-portion of the schedule and has previously produced some of the most action packed racing in track history. The 2014 edition was notably a non-stop 40 lap feature.

At press time Sacramento's Tom Baker leads the Madera points while still searching for his first win. Gerhardt Classic winner Cody Gerhardt, rookie Justin Kawahata, and the father and son duo of Nevada's Bob and Al Beck round out the top-five in the points. Glenn Hutchison's entry has earned a combined 156 points between his son Dylan and Idaho driver Bryan Warf sharing driving duties. Clovis' AJ Russell and Dylan Noble are another series regulars.

The inaugural West Coast Sportsman event will be a split 75 lap race with a 50 lap opening segment followed a 25 lap segment later in the program. West Coast Sportsman mirrors many of the cost-saving procedures of the LoanMart Late Models such as one set of tires per race weekend. The West Coast Sportsman is a team-driven initiative of former steel and composite bodied West Series-type cars. This non-points event is shaping up to feature several local Madera drivers in competition as a test race for a possible 2017 season for the cars. Teams that compete in the October 1st opener each receive four free pit passes to ease their transition into the series.

360 Super Modified fans should be treated to a strong field as well with CSS officials confirming an increased car count is expected. The BCRA Midgets have had a thrilling and competitive season made up of many long-time veterans to the sport along with several drivers that race double-duty across Sprints and Midgets. Entry level USAC HPD Midgets have been a battle between the Breidinger sisters and Jesse Love IV while the Legends of Kearney Bowl is one of the best vintage exhibition series on the planet with large fields of vintage Super Modifieds.

Female drivers anchor the top of the Toyota Sedan field with Jilliaun Holden and Lucy Carmona, while Kevin Thompson is closing in on yet another MST track championship.

All of the above comprises one very busy night at the MAVTV-televised LoanMart Madera Speedway! Race fans can catch up on LoanMart Madera Speedway racing with "Madera Racing" airing Thursdays on MAVTV at 8 p.m. Eastern / 5 p.m. Pacific. Check your local listings. Regular Season Finale At 99 This Weekend

STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA (September 14, 2016) - Stockton 99 Speedway will host its points season finale on Saturday night with the double points Night of Champions at the 68 year old quarter-mile. Night of Champions caps off a 2016 season that has focused on rebuilding the local heroes, with points paying action for the new Stockton Late Models, return of the Grand American Modifieds, Bombers, and Mini Cups.

Stockton Late Models has been one of the success stories of the year in California short track racing. Building off of the advancements of Super Stocks along with many regional tracks going to a low cost Late Model formula, Stockton Late Models have hit on the sweet spot of speed and affordability. Pete Anderson, Jr. won last week's 35 lap feature but runner-up Larry Tankersley leads Dennis Byres by 51 points heading into the finale. Tankersley just needs a smooth finish to wrap up the championship!

Justin Lovelace and Aaron Shankel round out the top-four. The father and son duo of Chad and Seth Holman have split time in their entry to run eighth and 14th in the overall order but would be fourth on their combined efforts. Gary Shafer, Jr.'s Fourth of July weekend win was enough to boost him to sixth in the standings. 26 different drivers have earned points this year in nine races.

Sacramento's Eric Price got his first Grand American Modified win of the year last week to move within 16 points of his younger brother Kris in the tightly wound championship battle. Stockton Super Stock graduate Robbie "The Kid" Knittel ranks third ahead of Sammy Solari and Camino's Scot Alves.

John Medina and Brad Mast have consistently anchored the top of the Bomber points all season, with Mast getting Saturday's win over Medina. Medina leads Mast by 63 points to all but wrap up the championship. Allen Rider III, Dave Anderson, and Mikala Stearns make up the rest of the top-five. A season-high 12 cars competed in last Saturday's main event.

The youngest drivers at Stockton 99 Speedway are in the California Mini Cups, where drivers ages 8-15 compete in this diminutive spec cars. A class virtually entirely made up of rookies, Hollister's Adam "The Bullet" Lemke is using his sophomore season to lead rookie second generation driver JoJo Stearns by ten points heading into the finale. Kash Holman is third in his rookie campaign ahead of fellow rookie Aaron Thomas and sophomore driver Joshua "Bubba" Terry.

No Friday practice will be held for this weekend's activities.

Speedway Willow Springs Returns To Action This Saturday

By Dave Grayson

Speedway Willow Springs will be turning on the lights this Saturday night to present round five of what has been a very competitive and entertaining 2016 season. The always challenging quarter mile paved oval is located within the massive Willow Springs International Raceway complex in the beautiful community of Rosamond. The evening will feature racing from six different divisions with the green flag waving over the first race at 6pm. The evening is being presented by Platinum Jewelry and Loan of Lancaster.

One of the major highlights of the evening will be the 40 lap main event from the Hooper's Rear End Service Elite Division. Driver David Brandon has been on fire this season and appears to be well on his way to a division championship. However, this doesn't mean his fellow drivers are going to lay back and hand him another trophy. This particular racing division is loaded with driving talent that includes speedway veterans, former track champions and main event winners such as Chris Peedan, Alex Anderson, John Penning and Randy Wilkins. This quartet of drivers will be on a mission Saturday night to figure out how to beat Brandon and be the first to pass under the checkers on lap 40.

Driver Tony Forfa is sitting on top of the championship points in the Platinum Jewelry and Loan standings, with three feature wins, and goes into Saturday night with a 15 point advantage over Justin Good whose feature win proves he can also get the job done. Not to be overlooked here is the presence of drivers Jerry Baxter , ageless wonder Bruce Secord and Dwight Kelly who are separated by three points in a fight for the third in the standings. The division's 35 lap main event is expected to be another lively affair as they have been all season long.

Driver Johnny Troesch has been formidable so far in the Wayne and Dave's Automotive Hobby Stock division with his four feature wins including three wins in a row. However, it was fellow competitor Michael Williams who broke that three win streak and lines up second in the championship standings only 12 markers behind Troesch. With only three races remaining in the season, that deficit could possibly be eradicated. These two drivers will be the pair to watch during the division's 30 lap main event.

The Lucas Oil Mini Stocks season has been highly interesting so far this season. It began with driver-team owner John Dunlap winning the first race of the season. He next turned the ride over to Willow Springs veteran Bobby Dezarov who won the second race of the season. Then, in the month of May, driver Ryan Bragdon got curious about Willow Springs racing and won three consecutive races. Another interesting aspect of this division is the presence of driver Greg Didoha whose consistent top five finishes has him second in the championship standings only four points behind Bragdon. However, Dezarov is only six points away from the top. This division could possibly turn out to be one of the best title runs of the 2016 season.

The always fun Tire Store Skid Plate division will be treating their fans to twin main events Saturday night. Driver Jon Carter leads the division's championship standings with 64 points. However, he only holds a six point advantage over drivers Mike Howard and Daniel Chadwick who are tied for second in the standings. All three drivers have scored feature wins this year.

Making a return appearance Saturday night, as a special guest division, will be those adorable youngsters in their mini dwarf cars. This division comes with a major ooh and aah factor especially when the drivers participate in a victory lane interview. Who knows? You may be watching the development of a great future racing champion.

One of the major factors during an evening at Speedway Willow Springs is their dedication to providing family fun. That includes entertaining the kids with special programs such as the Big Wheel trike races on the front stretch and the kids candy toss. From the children, their parents and grand parents, this program is all about family fun.

A weekend at the Willow Springs International Raceway complex is also extremely budget friendly for the race fans. The purchase of a $10 wrist band at the front gate will allow fan access to the racing programs at every one of their tracks on both Saturday and Sunday. By the way, kids age eight and under are admitted free. In the case of this weekend fans can take in high powered motorcycle racing on Saturday at the Streets of Willow Springs, a 1.6 mile road course. Next, you can return to the complex to watch the Los Angeles based Specialty Car Craft Auto Track Day featuring exotic custom sports cars being put through their paces on Big Willow, the mammoth 2.5 mile, nine turn, road course. Add all of this to the action from Speedway Willow Springs and you have the makings of a super racing weekend.

Racing at the Speedway Willow Springs is presented by a large team of highly potent, and much appreciated, sponsors featuring A To Z Graphics, ABADAK, Adams Metalizing & Grinding, Angel's Touch Towing, Benz Sanitation, Deist Safety, Dezarov's Mobile Auto Service, Dominguez Mexican Restaurant, 51 Fifty Energy Drink, Frank's Radios, High Desert Cellars, Hooper's Rear End Service, KGG Electric, K&N Performance Filters, Linny White's Race Shop, Lucas Oil Products Inc, Misfit Motorsports, Pinnacle Peak Steak House San Dimas & Colton, Platinum Jewelry & Loan Lancaster, Scramblez, Street Customs, Studio Equipment Rentals, 10,000 RPM, The Tire Store and Wayne & Dave's Automotive.

Henderson clinches title for Moulton in substitute role

By Matthew J. Sullivan

It was a fine evening for racing this past Saturday night at Redwood Acres Raceway. It was Mid City Motor World Night at the Races and all six local divisions were in action including the late model division which was running its final point paying event of 2016.

Prior to the racing action starting, Redwood Acres Raceway and its fans paid tribute to the late Nyle Henderson. Henderson was a former racer at Redwood Acres Raceway and was a fixture at the Acres for more than 30 years. Nyle Henderson is the father of the late, Steve Henderson who was also a driver at Redwood Acres Raceway in the 80s on the dirt and the 90s on the pavement. Henderson is also the grandfather of current RAR driver, David Henderson.

James Nichols was fast time in the California State and Federal Employee Credit Union roadrunner division with a 20.763. Dominic Vogelsang won the trophy dash while heat race victors were Ken Barrett and Nichols. The 20-lap feature started off with the cars running in the opposite direction. The race was slowed early when Gage Ethridge hit the wall in turn three. Ken Barrett led the opening two laps before Vogelsang took over. Even after the cars were turned around to run the proper direction around the track, Vogelsang was dominant. At the finish it was Vogelsang taking his first main event win. Nick Ford placed second followed by Nichols, Barrett and Tyler Peach.

Qualifying for the Humboldt Hydroponics mini stocks was paced by Brian Murrell, Sr. with a 19.045. Gary Klinetobe took trophy dash honors while heat races were won by Brian Murrell, Jr. and Rick Estes. The 25-lap feature was led early on by Brian Murrell, Jr. On lap six, Rick Estes took over and never looked back. The best battle for the rest of the race was for third between Jarrett Mayo, Klinetobe, Palmer and Murrell, Jr. At the front, Estes was able to hold on and withstand a late charge by Murrell, Sr. to take the win. Mayo took third, Klinetobe fourth and Palmer rounded out the top five.

Brad Curtice set quick time for the Legends class with a 18.001 qualifying time. Robert Miller took the trophy dash win while Curtice took the heat race victory. Curtice and Miller resumed their season-long battle in the 25-lap main event. In spite of Curtice leading from start-to-finish, it was a tight race between the two. At the finish it was Curtice taking the win over Miller, Anissa Curtice and M’Kinzy Uselton.

Kolby Jackson was fast time for the Fortuna Wheel and Brake bomber division with a 18.276. The trophy dash saw an unfortunate accident between John Lally, Ray Taylor, Sr. and Jordon Paiment which sent Paiment hard into the wall. While Paiment was okay, he was finished for the night. Jackson won the dash. The heat race was taken by Taylor, Sr. Steven Taylor led the opening lap of the 25-lap main before Jackson took over the lead. Jackson would never fall out of the top position. The event was cut short of its scheduled distance when Lally spun in turn three. James Moore had nowhere to go and slammed into Lally’s rear-end. Thankfully both drivers were okay. Officials declared the race official with Jackson being the winner. Ray Taylor, Sr. was second while Moore was credited with third. Shane Toole finished fourth while Steven Taylor placed fifth.

The fastest driver in Thunder Roadster qualifying was Ronnie O’Neil with a 17.339. Aaron Byers won the trophy dash while Tommy Payne took the heat race. Jett Taylor led the first lap of the 30 lap main but on lap two it was Byers in the lead. The highlight of the race was for third between Donnie Brown, O’Neil and Payne. On lap 19, Payne finally prevailed to move into third. Nobody had anything for Byers on the night as he took the win in dominating fashion. Taylor placed second followed by Payne, O’Neil and Brown.

13 Mid City Motor World late models took time with David Henderson setting fast time with a 15.828. Henderson was racing as a substitute for Mic Moulton who was injured in the most recent race on August 20th. Henderson’s role as Moulton’s sub took an even bigger role on the night as the points champion in the division was on the line and Moulton was the points leader over Marty Walsh.

Walsh took the trophy dash win while heat race victories went to Kenny Demello and Henderson. Demello led the opening lap of the 50-lap feature before giving way to Corey James. James’ time up front was short as Henderson moved to the lead on lap six. Meanwhile, Walsh was having to play catch up having been involved in an opening lap tangle which put him at the rear of the field.

Racing came to a halt on lap 30 and several cautions slowed the race. The most notable incident involved Dustin Walters and Walsh with both going to the rear. Henderson looked to have the dominant car but began suffering issues. On lap 38, James maneuvered back to the lead. Two laps later a major incident in turn four brought out the yellow. Officials deemed the race official with James taking the win and Henderson helping Moulton claim the championship. Walsh recovered to finish third while Robbie Nelson and Ken Hallis rounded out the top 10.

Racing at Redwood Acres Raceway returns Saturday September 24th for the final points race of the season presented by Maxwell’s Custom Automobiles. The late models will be off but the other five local classes will be in action to determine who will win the track championships in each division. Concluding the event will be the second boat race of 2016.

2016 at the Acres concludes October 7th, 8th, and 9th with the return of the Fall Spectacular. Late models and modifieds highlight the event while roadrunners, bombers, mini stocks, Legends and Thunder Roadsters will also be in action. For more information about the Fall Spectacular including entry forms and purse payout please visit Redwood Acres Raceway’s official website, www.racingtheacres.com

Doni Wanat Snags First Career NWSLMS Win

Wenatchee, WA (September 12, 2016)–Short track racing was at its best for the Neal Newberry 125 at Wenatchee Valley Super Oval Saturday night in Wenatchee, WA. When the lights came on and the checkered flag flew it was Doni Wanat taking home his first career Northwest Super Late Model Series victory.

Joey Bird, Clint Habart, Braeden Havens and Alan Cress rounded out the Top-5 finishers.

The day started out with the 24-car field taking to qualify for the 125-lap feature. Current NWSLMS point’s leader, Garrett Evans, set a new track record at 12.535-sec. lap. Both Jan Evans, son of Garrett and Braeden Havens would also break the previous track record. An eight-car invert was pulled by Garrett Evans, putting Andy Sole and Steve Floyd on the front row.

Sole and Floyd brought the 24 car field through the gears to the green flag with Floyd using the outside line to overtake Sole for the lead. Floyd stayed out front for the first 17 laps until Brent Harris moved from third to first in just two laps with a pass on Floyd to the outside. Harris would showcase his horsepower on the fast quarter mile for the next 50 laps, withstanding pressure throughout the stretch from hard-charging Shane Mitchell.

On lap 67 a car spinning brought out the caution bringing Mitchell and Harris side by side for the restart. When the green flag flew it was Mitchell getting a run to the outside as the two raced side by side for the next two laps. On lap 70 Harris made contact with Mitchell in turn No. 4 sending Mitchell sideways. Harris and Mitchell would retire for the evening after the contact.

After the smoke settled it was Garrett Evans in the top spot with Wanat to his outside on the restart. The lead wouldn’t last long for Evans as Alan Cress would make a run to pass both Wanat and the leader Evans to establish himself at the front of the field.

Cress would hold the lead for several laps until Wanat made a move to retake the top spot with less then 40 laps to go. In the closing laps both Cress and Evans would fall back due to handling issues.

Wanat was able to build a commanding lead until a caution came out on lap 114 bunching up the field once again. This time on the restart it was a fast charging Bird who would battle Wanat to the checkered flag. Bird came from the thirteenth starting position to second and positioned himself for a win but it Wanat who was able to hold the young gun and take the checkered flag.

JOES Racing Hard Charger was Molly Helmuth who advanced 13 positions from 24th to 11th place finish. Bird power driving to the front earned him the “KRC Power Steering Power Move of the Race”.

Next up for the NWSLMS is the series championship race, the 29th Annual Fall Classic, at Yakima Speedway. Set for September 30-October 2, this is the premier season finale for the Northwest.

Gragson Doubles Up In Utah

TOOLE, Utah – Noah Gragson made the big move on Todd Gilliland on the last lap of the UMC 110 presented by Ken Garff Volvo to sweep the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West doubleheader weekend at Utah Motorsports Campus.
It was Gragson's second win in as many days, as the Las Vegas driver won Saturday's race on the 3.048-mile oval. The races marked the first time the series ran a doubleheader on back-to-back days at the same venue, and Gragson made the most of the historic weekend.

Gragson powered his No. 7 SPEEDVEGAS/AlertID/Colliers International Ford through the field after dropping from third to 12th to avoid an incident midway through the race. After charging his way back into the top three, the 17-year-old NASCAR Next driver used his winning strategy from last night – conserving his tires and waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

Gragson’s window opened when he was able to get by Ryan Partridge in the turns with seven laps remaining. For the next six laps, he stared down Gilliland’s bumper waiting for the opportunity to take the lead. Gragson made the bump-and-run on his fellow NASCAR Next driver on the final lap to grab the checkered flag for the second time.

Gilliland and Partridge finished second and third, respectively, while Gilliland’s Bill McAnally Racing teammate Riley Herbst and K&N Pro Series West veteran Todd Souza rounded out the top five.

Gragson’s weekend sweep moved him third in the standings, where he trails Gilliland by 37 points. Partridge sits just 13 points back of Gilliland with two races remaining.

Blaine Perkins, Will Rodgers, Julia Landauer, Cole Rouse and Stafford Smith completed the top 10.

The Utah doubleheaders will air on NBCSN Saturday, September 17 from 9 and 10 p.m. ET (7 and 9 p.m. MT).

The NASCAR K&N Pro Series West will return to action Saturday, Sept. 24 at Idaho’s Meridian Speedway.
