Havasu 95 Speedway Resolves Two More Championships

By Dave Grayson

The Havasu 95 Speedway, the quarter mile paved oval located in Lake Havasu City-Arizona, crowned two more champions this past Saturday night under the typical exciting circumstances that this facility is famous for. This time there was a final resolution in the title run for the Get It In Gear Street Stocks and the Maintenance Solutions Team Factory Stocks.

When the Havasu 95 Speedway's 2015 - 2016 winter racing season began, Street Stock driver Gavin Bucy put on a driving clinic that immediately caught the attention of his competition, the fans and the officials. During a period that spanned from October 3d until January 16th, Bucy ran up a string of six consecutive main event wins. However, there was an a set of circumstances that didn't guarantee a championship trophy. That was due to the presence of speedway veteran, and former track champion, Bobby Keirns who collected six consecutive second place finishes that kept him within striking distance in the points standings.

However Keirns soon figured out the fast way around his season rival and, on February 6th, scored his first win of the season and then followed that up with two more consecutive wins. The two title contenders were now tied in the points going into last Saturday night's final Street Stock races of the season. Making this title run more exciting was the fact that the division was scheduled to run twin, 25 lap, mains. Once again, Keirns rose to the occasion and won the first race while Bucy finished third. Main event number two saw Keirns win his fifth consecutive race with Bucy finishing second. After Bucy's domination of the first six races of the season, Keirns wound up taking the division championship by six points.

The Maintenance Solutions Team Factory Stocks is the creation of Havasu 95 Speedway Promoter Bill Rozhon. The concept calls for three rotating drivers with at least one of them having to be a lady. Congrats goes out to Team Take and Bake and team drivers Jose Guevara along with Christine and Chris Weiss who wrapped up the division title this past Saturday night by a four point margin over the Asphalt Junkies and their trio of drivers comprised of Brandon Preston, Stacy Cherico and Tom Gray. EWWWWEEEE Racing placed third, only six points from first. The team was represented by Jeff Prieur, Nicki Prieur and William Guevara backed by a late season assist from Shelly Keirns and Robyn Gallaty.

Other championships already resolved includes Trevor Huddleston who won the Late Model title based on three consecutive feature wins and seven top five finishes. Bobby Keirns, who has been really busy this year, and Jeff Peterson tied for second in the rankings. Both drivers scored a main event win and six top five finishes.

Congrats to young Adam Hommerding who claimed the Havasu Wiring Outlaw Karts championship based on seven wins, including four in a row, and a consistent 12 top five finishes. Brody Wake and Korbin Mitchell followed the new champion by finishing second and third.

The Havasu 95 Speedway will wrap up their final two division championships during their winter season finale race set for April 16th. Still to be settled on this night are the Bandolero and Sam Nichols Electric Factory Stock titles.

Havasu 95 Speedway To Resolve A Street Stock Tie This Saturday Night

By Dave Grayson

The most scenic quarter mile paved oval in the southwest will be presenting "April Racin' Fools Night" on Saturday. Highlighting the on track action will be the Get It In Gear Street Stocks who will be resolving their season championship on this day. Drivers Gavin Bucy and Bobby Keirns will start Saturday's final racing tied in the championship standings. Making this situation even more interesting is the fact that the Street Stocks will be running twin, 25 lap, main events.

Also on the track this Saturday will be the Maintenance Solution Team Factory Stocks, featuring lady drivers only, who will also be resolving their championship run. The Sam Nichols Electric Factory Stocks will also see action along with the speedway's new Tough Truck program. The spectator gates will open at 5pm with racing at 7pm. All of this quarter mile racing action is being presented by track sponsors Cambell's Redi Mix and Big O Tires.

At the beginning of the speedway's 2015-2016 winter racing season, it appeared that Street Stock driver Gavin Bucy was going to run away with the division championship. During a period that ran from October 3d to January 16th, Bucy scored six, consecutive, main event wins. Meanwhile Bobby Keirns scored six, consecutive, second place finishes that at least kept him close to Bucy in the division's points standings.

Keirns is a veteran at the Havasu 95 Speedway who has collected more than his fair share of feature wins over the years. He's also a former track champion. A race car fabricator and driver of this quality doesn't just race on cruise control and accept second place. He digs a little deeper to determine what needs to be done to score race wins and enough points to claim a championship. That's exactly what Keirns did during the second half of the speedway's racing season. From February 6th to March 5th, Keirns scored three, consecutive, feature wins and that's what led to a tie in the championship standings.

Keep an sharp eye on these two drivers Saturday night. With the Street Stocks running twin, 25 lap, main events just about anything can happen that will crown the division's new champion.

General admission tickets are $12 and $10 for seniors, military personnel and the handicapped. Kids tickets, age six to 16, are $6 with kids five and under admitted free when accompanied by a paid adult. The speedway also offers a budget friendly family package for $25 that admits two adults and two kids. Fans can also enjoy the special amenities of the VIP section, featuring the best seats in the house, for $25. Advance tickets for Saturday's race can be purchased by visiting Peggy's Sunrise Café located at 1584 Country Shire Avenue.

For out of town race teams and fans, the Quality Inn and Suites is the official motel of the Havasu 95 Speedway. Located at 271 South Lake Havasu Avenue, they offer beautiful and spacious rooms at very affordable rates. Call 928 855 1111 for reservations which can also be made online.

Havasu 95 Speedway To Present "Maniacs On Wheels" This Saturday

By Dave Grayson

Observing their long time tradition of having fun with their racing shows, the Havasu 95 Speedway will be presenting "Maniacs On Wheels" this Saturday afternoon. The event is the latest round of their 2015-2016 Winter Racing Series. The spectator gates will open at 12pm with the racing receiving the green flag at 2pm. The racing is being sponsored by the Apothecary Shop and Tri-Tech Auto.

Highlighting the on track action will be the Late Models and the Havasu Wiring Outlaw Karts. Both of these divisions will be running their final race of the winter season meaning champions will be crowned on Saturday. Also pegging the racing fun meter will be the Get It In Gear Street Stocks, the Sam Nichols Electric Factory Stocks and the Maintenance Solution Team Factory Stocks.

The Late Model championship standings has Trevor Huddleston on top of the rankings with five top five finishes including three consecutive main event wins. Despite that high level of consistency, the conclusion of this championship run is still too close to call going into the final race. Jeff Peterson, with a feature win and five top five finishes, is only eight points away from first. If for some reason Huddleston and Peterson find themselves on the receiving end of bad racing luck this Saturday, speedway veteran, and former track champion, Bobby Keirns, with five consecutive top five finishes, is sitting in third 16 points away from the leader and eight points away from the second position.

It's safe to assume that driver Adam Hommerding will be crowned the Havasu Wiring Outlaw Karts champion this Saturday. Hommerding has seven features wins, including four in a row, along with ten top five finishes. That adds up to 486 championship points along with a lead of 32 points ahead of Korbin Mitchell who has scored a feature win, 8 top five and two top ten finishes. In fact, the real points battle in this division may turn out to be who collects the bragging rights of finishing second in the final standings. Brody Wake, with ten top fives, holds down third going into Saturday's race and is only six points away from Mitchell.

The one championship battle that has all Havasu 95 Speedway fans talking involves the Get It In Gear Street Stocks. Series hot shoe Gavin Bucy won the first six main event features in a row. One would believe that impressive effort would be more than enough to guarantee him the championship.

It didn't turn out that way. That's because Bobby Keirns ran up a string of six consecutive second place finishes and, with only two championship points separating first and second, that kept him close to Bucy in the standings. Then, on the evenings of February 6th and 20th, Keirns held a reunion with the speedway's victory lane and shaved eight points off of Bucy's lead.

The two drivers will be going into Saturday afternoon's event only four points apart. After Saturday, they will square off against each other during twin main events on April 2nd to settle a championship battle that could go down to the final laps of the final race.

The always fun Sam Nichols Electric Factory Stocks, with their racing is rubbing format, will play a big part in Saturday's racing entertainment as they always do. Brent Delay with his five wins, six top fives and one top ten holds down the top position in the points standings. However, he's only ten points ahead of Jose Guevara who has a feature win along with six top fives and a top ten. Feature winner Jeff Prieur, along with his seven top five finishes, is ranked third and is 16 points away from first and six points away from second. The series has four races remaining on their schedule and will crown their champion on the night of April 16th.

The Maintenance Solution Team Factory Stock championship standings has EWWWWEEEE Racing in the lead with 238 points based on two, consecutive, feature wins and five top five finishes. However, this championship race is also too close to call. Team Take and Bake, with a matching two wins and five top fives, is ranked second only four points out of first. Not to be overlooked here is the presence of the Asphalt Junkies whose five, consecutive, top five finishes has them third in the rankings just eight points away from the leader and four points away from the runner up position. The division has two races left on their schedule and will crown their champion on the night of April 2nd.

On Apothecary Shop/Tri-Tech Auto race day the spectator gates will open at 12pm. General admission tickets, age 17 plus, are $12 and $10 for seniors, military personnel and the handicapped. Tickets for kids, age six to 16, are $12 with kids five and under admitted free when accompanied by a paid adult. Additionally, Lake Havasu Unified School District students can receive a one dollar discount on their tickets by presenting their school IDs at the ticket gate. The speedway also offers a budget friendly family pack that admits two adults and two kids for $25. Also for $25, fans can enjoy the special amenities of the speedway's VIP Lounge featuring the best seats in the house. Advance tickets can be purchased from Peggy Gerchman at Peggy's Sunrise Café located at 1584 Country Shire Avenue.

Havasu 95 Speedway To Present The President's Day Classic This Saturday

By Dave Grayson

The Havasu 95 Speedway will open its spectator gates this Saturday afternoon for another round of their winter racing series. The most scenic quarter mile asphalt track in the southwest will be presenting their President's Day Classic featuring racing action from the Late Models running twin 50 lap main events, the Get It In Gear Street Stocks, Sam Nichols Electric Factory Stocks and the Maintenance Solution Team Factory Stocks. Because of ongoing chilly night time temperatures, this event will be a day race. The spectator gates will open at 12pm with the racing receiving the green flag at 2pm. All of this Saturday afternoon fun and excitement is being presented by the race sponsor, the Mud Shark Brewery.

The high powered Late Models will be running their fourth 50 lap main of the winter season with the three previous races producing three different winners. Nick Joanides scored the first trip to the Havasu 95 victory lane back on November 28th. Then, on a January 16th event that featured twin main events, Jeff Peterson and Trevor Huddleston celebrated their wins. The fact that this series has turned up three winners in three races is a testimony to how equal, and challenging, the competition is among the Late Model teams.

The Get It In Gear Street Stocks will be making their eighth appearance of the season this Saturday. Since the speedway's 2015-2016 winter season began back in October, the street stock racing has been centered around two drivers: Gavin Bucy and Bobby Keirns. Bucy started the season literally on fire and won six, consecutive, main events. Meanwhile the veteran, and former track champion, Keirns scored six consecutive runner up finishes which allowed him to stay within striking distance of Bucy in the division's championship points. Keirns found his way to victory lane this past February 6th taking the checkered flag with a very decisive margin of victory of 2.501 seconds. With four races left on the street stock schedule, this run for the championship is far from settled.

One level of guaranteed excitement, on the Havasu 95 race schedule, you can always count on is the Sam Nichols Electric Factory Stock division. For years this division has enjoyed a loyal fan base created by their racing is rubbing main events that kept the fans standing on their feet. So far this season, driver Brent Delay has been the division's hot shoe collecting four main event wins within a period of two months. Jeff Prieur has found the Havasu victory lane twice this season and Chris Weiss scored his first feature win back on January 16th.

The Maintenance Solution Team Factory Stocks was created just a few short years ago by speedway promoter, Bill Rozhon. The concept calls for three rotating drivers, with at least one of them having to be a lady, collecting championship points for their teams. Current hot shoes among the group are Jose Guevara, Clint Almquist, Chris Weiss and William Guevara. Four appearances so far this season has turned up four different winners and that speaks volumes regarding how competitive this division. The drivers will have their hands full this Saturday because it's their turn to race on the dirt infield track area and that's always fun to watch.

On Saturday Mud Shark Brewery race day the spectator gates will open at 12pm.

Dave Grayson

The Havasu 95 speedway officially kicked off the second half of their 2015-2016 winter racing season last Saturday afternoon by observing a long standing tradition of ringing in a new year with racing on the first Saturday in January.
