Pacific Challenge Series Eyes Shasta Return Saturday

SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA (May 3, 2017) - Drivers from across the western United States will flock to Anderson, CA's Shasta Speedway, with the Pacific Challenge Series presented by PenneyLawyers.com coming to town for the "Shasta Spring Shootout 100". Saturday's event will mark the second race for the Super Late Model touring series in 2017.

The series opened March 18th at Madera Speedway where Carlos Vieira scored his first career touring stock car win in the 75 lap contest on the 1/3rd mile. Now teams will turn their attention to the largest track on the ten race circuit as Shasta boasts a 3/8ths mile oval located on the Shasta District Fairgrounds.

Tracy Bolin of Valley Springs won last year's Shasta jaunt in a knock out drag out duel with 2012 & 2016 PCS champion Jeremy Doss of Upperlake, CA. Doss lowered the track record to a blistering 15.449 second lap in time trials on a hot June afternoon as well. With temperatures forecasted to be as much as 30 degrees cooler this time around, the record may fall even lower.

Bolin led a trio of Shasta first-timers last year with 2016 Rookie of the Year Matt Wendt finishing sixth while 2014 champion and 2015 & 2016 runner up Mike Beeler failing to finish.

Several PCS competitors venturing to Shasta have never raced in a PCS points race at the facility. Championship contender Jason Romero of Cameron Park finished second at Madera in March and set the Madera track record last August as well. He hopes to translate that success to the larger speedway this weekend.

Series rookies Alexander Mead of Watsonville, fresh off an eighth place finish at Madera, and Jack Wood of Loomis will both make their maiden Shasta starts. Series veterans Danny Malfatti and Travis Milburn are also among those expected to make their first PCS Shasta starts.

Both John and Cole Moore made their first PCS Shasta runs last year with 2015 Rookie of the Year Cole Moore coming home third ahead of father John who was scored tenth in the final rundown.

Several Shasta area competitors are planning to join the competition this week including Jason Mitchell, Ryan Peeples, Derek Copeland, and Dana Bowers. Bowers leads the contingent with three career PCS starts including two top-tens at Shasta in 2013.

Roseville's Shannon Mansch has one career PCS win coming in April of 2015 at Roseville, but also has a Westcar Late Model Series touring win back in 2006 at Shasta Speedway on her resume. She parlayed that win into becoming the first female touring Late Model champion ever and looks to extend that legacy with a return to the track this weekend. Chris Scribner's lone Shasta touring start yielded a top-five in 2013 as well.

This weekend's racing will also include local Legends, Bombers, and Hornets for a busy night of action.

An open practice kicks off the weekend on Friday with an open practice. Pit gates open at noon with practice from 2 p.m. - 7 p.m. The cost is $40 per pit pass. Saturday will be a $100 entry fee for drivers and their cars, and $40 pit passes for all crew. Gates open at noon with first practices at 2 p.m. and racing by 7 p.m. Adult tickets are just $10 with kids 12 and under free!
