Hamilton Signs With McCormack Racing For Indy Lights Debut At Laguna Seca

INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA (August 30, 2016) – Third generation driver Davey Hamilton, Jr. will make his highly anticipated 2016 Indy Lights presented by Cooper Tires debut, signing with McCormack Racing to compete in the series finale at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Hamilton will compete in both races over the course of the dual weekend, September 10th and 11th.

Impact Racing and Piloti Shoes will be team supporters of the race weekend at Laguna Seca. Hamilton, Jr. carries additional personal support from Kingdom Racing, Dahl Tug and Barge, and Cocomo Natural.

The 18 year-old King of the Wing Sprint Car Series champion has been working on a position on the series grid since last fall, including extensive road course testing at Buttonwillow Raceway north of Bakersfield, CA. The Boise, ID born driver is following in his father's footsteps as the latest American racer to translate asphalt Open Wheel & Sprint Car success into an INDYCAR career.

"I'm glad to have the opportunity to compete in the Indy Lights with Jack McCormack and to make my debut on the road course," Hamilton, Jr. said. "I'm looking forward to getting some laps under my belt to have a solid weekend."

Hamilton, Jr.'s 2015 concluded with his fifth Sprint Car win of the year at Madera in November en route to the King of the Wing Western Sprint Car Series championship and third in the national championship. In 2016 he has one feature win and leads the national championship standings by 24 points.

His father Davey, Sr. has competed in 11 Indianapolis 500s with a best finish of fourth. He also finished second in series points in back-to-back seasons in 1997 and 1998. He remarkably finished ninth in the 2007 edition of the 500 after a six year comeback from a devastating crash at Texas Motor Speedway. He tested for McCormack Racing and made a single appearance with them in the Indy Lights race at Phoenix in 1995.

Jack McCormack's racing history goes back to 1966 in drag racing before a successful career in engineering and car ownership across IMSA, IndyCar, Indy Lights, and USAC. McCormack has worked with a diverse range of top drivers such as Sam Posey, Skip Barber, Pancho Carer, Roger McCluskey, Jerry Sneva, Roger Mears, Tom Sneva, Geoff Brabham, and Dick Simon.

Hamilton, Jr. has tested both the third and current IL-15 fourth generation Indy Lights car with more than 15 days in the seat. He will have three more days of testing over the next two weeks before the team will travel north to Monterey, CA for the race weekend at Laguna Seca.

Davey Hamilton, Jr. and Jack McCormack are looking for additional funding to secure a full-time campaign for the 2017 season. McCormack Racing would like to run as many as two full time entries.
